About IROYA
For thousands of years, people have turned to plants and minerals to create beautiful, lasting colors. By understanding how botanical compounds and minerals interact, we can unlock unique shades, ensure durability, and rediscover the incredible palette nature provides.
IROYA was born from a desire to reconnect with nature and to restore the indigenous relationship between humans, plants, and the Earth.
Rooted in both research and practice, IROYA explores how living color — pigments grown from plants and minerals — can create harmony between design, materiality, and the natural world.
Each hue is the result of observation, experimentation, and care — a study of how biological materials and human intention come together to form beauty that restores.
At IROYA, we approach color as a living system: part science, part art, and part memory of the Earth itself.
From a small studio on the coastline of the Norwegian fjords, IROYA explores the art and science of growing color — cultivating plant-based pigments that are both biologically alive and emotionally resonant.
The name IROYA comes from Japanese: “Iro” (色) means color, tone, or essence — it carries emotion, atmosphere, and vibration and Ya” (屋) means house, place, or studio.
Together, IROYA can be understood as “The House of Color” — a place where color lives, breathes, and transforms. Farger som lever - The colors that live.
It represents the meeting of color and consciousness — where hue becomes a language of healing, connection, and remembrance.
Each hue begins as a seed. Guided by soil, rain, and sunlight, we transform natural materials into colors that carry the energy and memory of the landscape.
Every pigment holds a trace of its origin — the scent of the plant, the minerals of the ground, the rhythm of the seasons.
Blending natural dye research, herbalism, and biodesign, IROYA studies how color can nurture the body, calm the mind, and connect the spirit to the living Earth.
Our textiles, garments, and color stories are created with respect for ecology and craft — each piece an expression of regeneration, balance, and beauty.
At IROYA, color is not manufactured — it’s grown, felt, and experienced as a form of living medicine.
